Dream house in Namibia

A dream house in Namibia – that would be great, wouldn’t it? During afternoon classes in Gobabis, several dream houses were created and awarded prizes.

Since 2021, we have had a new teacher at steps for children in Gobabis: Manfred Haoseb. He is responsible for the steps homes, Schutzengel children and afternoon classes. He comes up with all sorts of new things to do after the homework has been successfully completed. On one of the afternoons when our National Coordinator Ulrike Mai happened to be in Gobabis, he implemented an idea that could be carried out together with all the children in the afternoon care programme, with a little help from the supervising teachers Sophia and Regina, and that – as you can see – brought the children a great deal of joy.

The craft competition

That afternoon, Manfred prepared a craft session and turned it into a small competition. The aim of the craft competition was the creative construction of a dream house by each individual child using all sorts of different materials. Glue and pens, wood scraps from the carpentry workshop, paper and paints were put together and laid out for each participant.

And then it began!

Walls for the houses were built, windows cut out, flowers planted in the garden, roofs sawn and glued onto the completed walls, signs painted, stairs built and chimneys erected. There were no limits to their imagination!

After a certain amount of time, the finished buildings were distributed across tables to be judged by the jury - made up of two older Schutzengel children who stepped forward in disguise. The selection process was not an easy one...

Which dream house do you think is the most creative?

The Schutzengel children and children from our steps homes proudly present their creations. You can tell how much they immerse themselves in the creative craft project, how they make an effort and focus on their task. At the same time, this trains their powers of concentration and motor skills, not least their creativity.
Manfred looks after our children and young people with joy and shows them a great deal of genuine interest. We are delighted that he strengthens our teaching team in Gobabis.
