Denise Schlichting active in Katutura and Hamburg

[:en]

From June to August 2017, Denise Schlichting provided us with valuable support as a volunteer in our steps office in Hamburg.

She was able to experience the work of steps for children during her 6-month volunteer placement at the „Boomerang“ kindergarten in Katutura, and has now been able to feed the impressions she gained on site into our work in Germany.

Before her commitment to the steps for children foundation, Denise completed her Bachelor of Arts in English/American Studies and Sociology at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. She brought her extensive intercultural experience, which she gained as an au pair in the USA, as a tutor for international students and as a student assistant in the Department of Anglophone Literature, to her work both in Namibia and here in Germany.

Her path will now take her from Namibia via Germany on to Scotland – to the University of Edinburgh – to complete a Master in Africa & International Development there and further deepen her knowledge based on her experience. Undoubtedly, her next steps will once again lead her back to Namibia and to steps for children.

We say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful collaboration and wish you, dear Denise, all the best and continued success on your path! Goodbye!!!
