Blowing eggs out and then painting them? Not every child knows that, which is why our volunteers, Katharina and Sophia, introduced this tradition in Okakarara:
„We in Okakarara organised a little Easter party with some of our afternoon children (class 4+5). We wanted to bring a bit of German tradition to Namibia and bought eggs, carefully poked two holes in them and then blew hard until the egg was empty! The children all did it for the first time and Emilly, our colleague, was also a little surprised by the method.
Little by little, however, everyone understood the principle and, for the first time, really mastered it well too. Of course, to the kids’ disappointment, many eggs broke, but we had enough as replacements. In the end, everyone had a lovely egg to paint – with acrylic and watercolours! Anyone who had finished could colour in Easter pictures with crayons, which we had previously gathered from Google. We cooked the blown-out egg mixture right at the end as scrambled eggs and thus ended the day with a shared meal.
Everyone had a lot of fun!“
