A completely different life – Emma in Okakarara

I am Emma. From the beginning of July until the end of August 2018, I lived with three other volunteers in Okakarara, Namibia, and there supported the steps for children project in the ECD/Kindergarten/Preschool, the After School Care, in the office and in the sewing workshop.

It was a varied and diverse job. Every day I was faced with a new challenge, which we always managed to overcome in some way with the help of our wonderful and committed colleagues. Whether it was the frequent water outage, a faulty power line or the language barrier with the little ones, I learned that with patience and creativity almost any difficulty can be overcome.

During the two months in Namibia, I was able to gain numerous experiences, such as learning how important independence and taking responsibility are. I was also able to get to know a completely different way of life and hope that I was able to leave my small footprint at steps in Okakarara.

We would like to sincerely thank you, dear Emma, for your dedicated service in our steps project in Okakarara!
