From mushroom house to classroom
The need for classrooms for the individual support of children remains persistently great and is to be met as quickly as possible. The former house for cultivating oyster mushrooms in the steps for children – Light for the Children project complex in Gobabis was identified for this purpose. In terms of size, it could meet the requirements for a classroom, toilet and shower. Window and door design, room circulation and lighting conditions had to be adapted, and the facilities made child-friendly.
Reiner Meutsch Stiftung generously supported our project in Gobabis and provided the financial resources. Thanks to this sustainable conversion, our steps children can now enjoy the room and make full use of it. In the mornings, the girls and boys from our teacher Santiago's pre-school class are taught here; in the afternoons, children from the guardian angel programme and children from our steps homes families receive remedial lessons there.
A big thank you goes to the Reiner Meutsch Stiftung FLY & HELP, which once again made implementation possible quickly and without complication!
