Once again, several classes (all 4th classes as well as one 1st class) at the Hamburg primary school School An der Gartenstadt in Wandsbek have really gone the extra mile for the steps for children project in Okakarara and raised donations.
Following a very eventful project week with in-depth discussions on the topic of „children’s rights in the world“, the pupils and teachers are happy and proud to be able to donate a four-figure sum to the steps for children project in Okakarara.
During the project week, the classes worked out, among other things, the ways in which children’s rights in Namibia/Okakarara differ from children’s rights in Germany/Hamburg.
The project week concluded with a big bazaar, where the girls and boys sold handmade items, baked goods and more on the topic of „children’s rights“ in aid of steps for children, thereby raising donations for steps.
In addition, as a wonderful example, class 1c of Mr Fink has decided to take on a sponsorship for the entire primary school period (4 years) as part of the guardian angel programme for Okakarara. In the coming years, the class will enter into a close, intensive and fruitful exchange with the children in Okakarara.
We at steps very much appreciate having such motivated primary school children at our side, supported and encouraged by dedicated educators — both in their thinking about what is familiar and in looking beyond the end of their own noses.

We thank all the pupils and teachers involved at the School at the garden city from the bottom of our hearts for this magnificent team effort.
