Sponsored Walk Christianeum – Over 3,900 km for a good cause

[:en]

On 18 July 2017, an entire school together with many other helpers was in action for a good cause. The Christianeum grammar school in Hamburg held a sponsored walk shortly before the summer holidays. Nearly 1000 pupils, together with their teachers and parents, were involved.

For each lap completed, the participants, among whom there were not only pupils but also teachers, received a rubber band around their arm so that the laps they had run could be counted later. In advance, the participants sought sponsors who would sponsor them for each completed lap with an agreed amount, which was then donated.

One lap covered 1300m. Cheered on by their class teachers, more than 3000 laps were run – over 3,900km – which means you could cross Namibia almost three times from north to south, or vice versa!

The programme was supplemented by other diligent helpers. So, alongside the runners, there were marshals, organisers and even a computing centre, which was supervised by upper school pupils and in which, after the sponsored walk had finished, the amounts raised were added up. Catering for everyone involved was provided by the MIC (Mittagessen im Christianeum) mothers.

Michael Hoppe also did not want to miss this major event and got an impression of the event on site.

At the end of this „thoroughly successful day“, there was more sporting activity for the pupils and teachers of the Christianeum – a football tournament in which pupils played against teachers. Last but not least, the day was rounded off with a barbecue on the school sports field.

The five-figure sum raised will be donated half to the steps for children foundation. We would like to thank all those involved in the sponsored walk, especially the pupils, teachers and parents of the Christianeum for this incredible effort, and we hope for further exciting events.
