The commitment of the vocational entry class in home economics (student company „Kitchen Magic“) from BBS II in Delmenhorst seems tireless: After their „African Buffet“ campaign (we reported on it – see the article „A delightful fundraising campaign“), their second fundraising campaign took place in downtown Delmenhorst.
On a Saturday, the young people met with homemade placard hangers in Delmenhorst’s market square to collect donations for steps for children. They had prepared intensively for this effort, which was a challenge not only because of the high heat, which they mastered with flying colors. There was lively exchange between the students and passers-by on topics such as sustainability and the meaning and purpose of donations in general. With information about the sustainable work of steps for children, the students encouraged passers-by to donate, and a three-digit amount was raised.
The students want to split the donation amount from both campaigns, in order to support the small vegetable garden in Okakarara on the one hand and to take on two guardian angel sponsorships for 2015 on the other. Dr. Hans-Christian Schröder, ambassador of steps for children, personally thanked the students for their fundraising campaigns and accepted the check. As a small token of thanks, he handed over an apron from the sewing room in Okakarara – it will hang in the dining room as a keepsake.
On behalf of the staff and children in Namibia, the steps team would like to sincerely thank the students for their double effort and their thematic work.
We are very pleased to have such committed young people at our side!
