The Nöth family visits steps – an unforgettable holiday in Namibia
The Nöth family spends the summer holidays an unforgettable holiday in Namibia and were able to get to know us in person on the spot. For one morning, they came closer to our day-to-day project work and here they report on their experience:
The first time on the African continent
The first time on the African continent – for us as a family, a very special trip. The landscape, the animals, the light, Namibia really inspired us. But at some point on our tour through the country, the feeling arose that there must be more to it than that. That after all the animals, we wanted to meet people too.
Near Waterberg
We had happened to hear that near Waterberg, where we were staying, there was a project run by a foundation. And when we read on the foundation’s website that visitors were welcome, we summoned up the courage and emailed to ask whether we could drop by Okakarara at short notice. And indeed: A quick reply came, saying we would be very welcome.

The project tour
A little excited, we arrived and were warmly welcomed by Sonja Schneider-Waterberg, and then shown around the project by office manager Mbaunguraije Zaako, from the sewing workshop to the classrooms. Everywhere we were allowed to look around and get to know the work of the carers, teachers, cooks and volunteers.
A good place and a noticeably good atmosphere
It quickly became clear: a truly good place, and a noticeably good atmosphere. What steps for children has built in Okakarara, as well as the spirit that could be felt there, impressed us greatly. We left again feeling very grateful – knowing that we are sure to remain connected to this place in one way or another for a long time.
A warm greeting goes to Mbaunguraije, she was a great and likeable guide!
Dear Nöth family, we are delighted that you enjoyed your time at steps in Okakarara and can look back on unforgettable travel experiences in Namibia.
