The 4 phases you go through,
to get involved with steps
We have selected the 4 phases you go through to get involved with steps for you. The getting-to-know phase, the information phase, the questions phase and the decision phase.
Phase 1 – Getting to know us
You can get to know us mainly through recommendations from other people. For example, if a friend did a Voluntary Social Year in Namibia. Or because a teacher friend goes as an expert to one of the projects every year to give teacher training and likes to talk about it. Perhaps you were invited to a birthday party and the birthday person wishes for a donation to steps for children instead of presents.
We are also represented on social media. Do you already know our accounts?
Phase 2 – Finding out more
So you go to the page www.stepsforchildren.de to find out more. What does the foundation do and what makes it so special? Our articles show you that we support people in Namibia and Zimbabwe with educational measures and income-generating measures who want to break the cycle of poverty through their own efforts.
And how are these goals implemented?
On the page Our vision you will find an explanation: Income-generating measures, so small businesses such as a carpentry workshop or a sewing workshop provide jobs for the local population. In this way, employees can finance their own lives and additionally support their relatives, whom they also help to feed (up to 10 people!). And also the social measures from crèches and pre-school to afternoon classes are supported by surpluses earned in the small businesses during normal times (without a pandemic). So that, in the best case, long-term independence from donations is achieved.
Phase 3 – The questions
Now you are sure to have questions like these: Why should you still donate if independence from donations is being pursued? And how sustainable is this support? Does that mean that steps for children withdraws from the projects as soon as they have become independent and the locals then manage everything on their own? Take a look at this article: „Power of Locals“.
Before you decide to support steps for children, you probably want to get to know someone from the organisation? That is easy too!
Get involved in our steps COMMUNITY and get to know the country and its people, the projects and other supporters. This gives you a deeper insight into our work on the ground, lets you ask your questions and contribute your ideas personally.

Phase 4 – The decision
Now you have got to know the structure of the steps organisation in more detail. Perhaps you now feel like travelling to Namibia and visiting the steps guesthouses as well, in order to get to know the people on site in the projects personally?! This way you can experience how your donation makes a difference. steps also offers you the opportunity to start your own fundraising appeal; your ideas are very welcome.
Have you recognised the four phases you go through in order to get involved with steps in yourself?
