Power of Locals
This is the plan: to hand over responsibility for steps projects in Namibia increasingly into the hands of local people, so that we and our National Coordinator will then only be available as advisors and points of contact.
Gobabis
Gobabis site management
Jackie Sanjath
Welcome Jackie! We are fortunate to welcome the power lady Jackie Sanjath in Gobabis as the new manager of the joinery and administration as well to welcome her. For around a year now, she has been responsible for the guesthouse and has impressed us with her expertise. Business plans and tenders are no foreign language to her, and overnight guests also like to come back to Gobabis.
Rehoboth
Head of Otto Xamseb
Markel Xamses
Markel supports, encourages and challenges Guardian angel children. She has passed the computer licence (ICDL Test) and manages the computer school. In the meantime, she also takes over the accounts and management. She is growing into the management role at Otto Xamseb House and is continuously evolving.
Founder and Head of Bridge of Hope
Rehoboth site manager
Milly Bock
Since 2018, Milly was a reliable partner in cooperation with steps for children. In addition, she was always at Markel’s side when questions arose or larger projects came up, and she worked together with her, supported her with advice and practical help, and shared her accounting expertise.
Unfortunately, Melvyrine Bock died on 28 June 2021 after a severe Covid illness. We miss her greatly as an active partner at steps for children and she leaves a huge gap that we cannot fill.
Okahandja
Project founder and manager Ileni Tulikwafeni
Meme Kauna
Kauna is a very committed woman – not only in her project, but the community is also close to her heart. And so she is now also councillor of Okahandja. Congratulations dear Kauna, we look forward to continuing to work with you.
Ongombombonde
Garden management and Finance
Hendrik Moroso and Cecilia Munago
We are pleased to, since February, Hendrik’s garden has been taken over and we can thus look back on a successful harvest. Once a week he comes from Otjiwarongo to implement further ideas. Cecilia keeps an eye on the costs, works in the garden and also comes along to sell the vegetables.
Okakarara
Office team
Sussie Nganjone
Eveline Ketjivandje
To a truly great office team in Okakarara, project manager Sonja Schneider-Waterberg can rely on. Under Sonja’s guidance, they not only organise all matters in the office, they are also contacts for social workers, colleagues and pupils, organise regular routines and take care of communication within the team.
Otavi
Head of project site Otavi
Exeldra
Exeldra, the excellent „day mother“ and excellent carer, provides her home for all the children every day. In this small group size, there was the opportunity throughout the year to meet and work through the tasks from school together. A great group that grows closer together year after year, supporting and motivating one another.
